Tragedy Strikes OC BikeFest and Delmarva Bike Week

Ocean City Police Department Investigates Fatal Collision

The Ocean City Police Department (OCPD) is investigating a fatal motorcycle crash that occurred during the annual OC BikeFest and Delmarva Bike Week. The tragic incident follows another fatal motorcycle collision just one day earlier in Ocean City.

Details of the Fatal Crash

On September 14, 2022, OCPD responded to a motor vehicle collision at the intersection of 100th Street and Coastal Highway north at approximately 5:15 pm. The collision involved a motorcycle and a 3-wheeled motorcyclist. As a result of the crash, the motorcyclist, identified as a Florida resident, sadly succumbed to their injuries.

Investigation Underway

The OCPD is thoroughly investigating the fatal crash. According to police reports, the motorcycle fled from an attempted traffic stop prior to the collision. The Maryland State Police also responded to the scene to assist with the investigation.

Community Response

The fatal crash has sent shockwaves through the Ocean City community. Authorities remind residents and visitors to prioritize safety during the BikeFest and other motorcycle events. Motorcyclists are advised to wear helmets, obey traffic laws, and exercise caution when riding.

Additional Precautions

Delaware safety officials urge both motorcyclists and vehicle drivers to remain vigilant during the annual Bike Fest. The increased number of motorcycles on the roadways warrants heightened caution and adherence to traffic regulations.

Previous Incidents

The fatal crash is the latest in a series of motorcycle accidents in the Ocean City area. Last Saturday, a different fatal motorcycle collision occurred near 77th Street and Coastal Highway. Additionally, a collision involving a state trooper and a motorcyclist in downtown Ocean City resulted in injuries on Saturday night.
